Brisbane’s Inter/Section: A Culinary Haven in the Heart of the CBD

Nestled within the Midtown Centre, Inter/Section is a sophisticated urban laneway connecting Charlotte and Mary Streets, offering a curated blend of Brisbane’s finest food and beverage experiences. With its exposed brick, lush greenery, and high ceilings, this chic space has become a beloved destination for city workers and visitors, seamlessly blending convenience with culinary artistry since its opening phases in 2022.

At the heart of Inter/Section lies Coffee Anthology, a celebrated name in Brisbane’s specialty coffee scene, which relocated from Margaret Street to this 700-square-meter heritage space in early 2022. Recently named the eighth-best coffee shop globally in the 2025 World’s 100 Best Coffee Shops awards, Coffee Anthology rotates top Australian roasters like Padre and Proud Mary, delivering rich, aromatic brews that have earned it a loyal following. Its innovative approach—showcasing third-party roasters—regained popularity during the pandemic, resonating with coffee lovers seeking variety.

Steps away, Fika, named after the Swedish concept of a coffee break with friends, offers a refined dining experience. Launched by Coffee Anthology’s owner Adam Wang in August 2022, Fika’s menu, crafted by chef Eugene Lee, fuses European and Asian flavors. Think coronation scrambled eggs with smashed cucumber, jjajang baked beans with chorizo, and craft beers or wines. Its leather booths and concrete tables create an inviting space for a thoughtful brunch or lunch, embodying a pause to savour life’s simple pleasures.

The Whisk Fine Patisserie, another gem within Inter/Section, brings award-winning pastries to the CBD. Led by chef Justin Yu, who expanded from Upper Mount Gravatt, The Whisk opened alongside Fika in 2022. It offers freshly baked delights like sour cherry danishes and savoury croissants stuffed with spicy salami or German sausage. Its glass-encased kiosk lets patrons watch the magic unfold, making it a go-to for grab-and-go treats that pair perfectly with a morning coffee.

Completing the quartet is Guest Coffee, a kiosk dedicated to coffee enthusiasts eager to explore global flavours. Featuring monthly international roasters by invitation, Guest Coffee adds an adventurous twist to Inter/Section’s offerings, ensuring there’s always something new to sip and savour.

Inter/Section isn’t just a food precinct—it’s a celebration of community and creativity, where every visit promises a moment of indulgence. Whether you’re sipping a cold brew at Fika, grabbing a pastry from The Whisk, or discovering a new roast at Guest Coffee, this laneway captures the essence of Brisbane’s evolving culinary landscape.
