As an avid fan of Brisbane’s craft and design hub, Artisan, I would like to take a moment to highlight my new favourite maker – Carys Martin.
After seeing some of her works in Artisan’s retail space and her current exhibit at the Machinery Street Gallery, I have deep-dived into this talented maker’s business and creations.
Based in Cleveland, South East Queensland, the Carys Martin Ceramics studio is a creative hub where Carys and her team produce ceramic goods rooted in nature, folklore and rituals of her homeland.
From functional, everyday pieces to one-off statement pieces, the painstakingly detailed nature of these ceramic goods speaks to the quality and value they offer.
Fortunately, for inner-city dwellers, you can view some of her most impressive pieces at Artisan’s Machinery Street window gallery, an exhibit titled ‘Whispers From The Woods’. The exhibition showcases some sacred creatures in her latest project – Whispers From The Woods Oracle Deck. A thing of almost indescribable beauty, the oracle deck and accompanying book highlight Cary’s artistic talents. If you need a gift idea any time soon, you need not look any further as this isn’t just an oracle deck for enthusiasts; it is a lifetime keepsake of art, beauty and wonderment.
