Justin Lane, where you can eat drink and be messy.

In the ever-evolving landscape of dining and entertainment, Justin Lane stands as a shining example of how to blend heritage, innovation, and a commitment to community. From its humble beginnings in 2011 in Burleigh Heads, the restaurant has expanded its footprint while remaining true to its core ethos: “Eat, drink, and be messy.” Recently, the team behind Justin Lane has taken this ethos to new heights with the launch of a Brisbane venue, transforming a heritage site into a multifaceted dining and entertainment destination.

The journey of Justin Lane is rooted in authenticity. Initially founded by a group of visionary restaurateurs, the brand was born out of a desire to deliver exceptional food and drinks. “We just set out to make really good food and drinks,” recalled Johnny, a key figure in the Justin Lane story. This straightforward yet profound approach set the foundation for a restaurant that has become synonymous with quality and innovation.

The Brisbane venue represents a new chapter in the Justin Lane saga. Located in a building steeped in history, previously home to the iconic Alfred and Constance, the space has been revitalized while retaining its original charm. “This building has such a legitimate soul,” Johnny shared. “It’s eclectic and mad, and that’s what makes it awesome.” With a focus on community integration, the venue offers something for everyone—whether it’s a casual dinner with friends, a lively rooftop bar experience, or a private event in one of its unique spaces.

One of Justin Lane’s defining features is its dedication to providing a premium yet accessible dining experience. From handmade pasta to wood-fired pizzas, the menu is a celebration of simplicity and quality. Johnny emphasized that while the food draws inspiration from Italian cuisine, the restaurant intentionally avoids labelling itself as an Italian establishment. “We’re a pizzeria, but we’re not constrained by traditions. We’re about creating an experience that feels right for the moment.”

The beverage program at Justin Lane is equally impressive. From its inception, the brand has prioritized craft cocktails, offering a level of mixology rarely seen on the Gold Coast at the time. This commitment to quality drinks continues to be a hallmark of the brand, with the Brisbane venue pushing boundaries even further. “This is a passion project for me,” Johnny admitted. “The cocktails here are things I’ve wanted to execute for years, incorporating fire, liquid nitrogen, and other innovative techniques.”

The venue’s design reflects its diverse offerings. From the bustling lower-level bar, perfect for private functions, to the tranquil rooftop, which provides an oasis from the city’s hustle, every space has been thoughtfully crafted. “We wanted to create an escape,” Johnny explained. “When you walk in, you’re greeted by olive trees and sunlight. It’s a little piece of serenity in the city.”

Community is at the heart of Justin Lane’s philosophy. The team’s involvement in local initiatives and their emphasis on creating a neighbourhood atmosphere have made the restaurant a beloved part of the Burleigh Heads community. Johnny hopes to replicate this success in Brisbane. “We want to be a relevant part of the neighbourhood. In Burleigh, people got engaged here, celebrated anniversaries, and made memories. That’s what we want for Brisbane, too.”

Events play a significant role in the restaurant’s appeal. The team has seen overwhelming interest from patrons looking to host everything from birthday parties to corporate gatherings. “The inquiries have been astronomical,” Johnny shared. “It’s a testament to the space’s versatility and the trust people have in our brand.”

As Justin Lane expands, its leadership remains committed to preserving the brand’s core identity while adapting to new environments. “The core essence of who we are doesn’t change,” Johnny affirmed. “But the experience evolves based on the location. In Brisbane, some decisions we made for Burleigh didn’t make sense. We had to adapt, but our ethos remains the same.”

This adaptability extends to the competitive dining landscape of Brisbane. While the city is home to many high-end restaurants, Justin Lane offers a more approachable alternative without compromising on quality. “We’re reasonably priced because we want people to come together, share good food, and create memories. That’s what restaurants are for,” Johnny said.

Looking to the future, Justin Lane’s vision is both ambitious and grounded. The team is focused on measured growth, ensuring that each new venue maintains the brand’s high standards. “We have a lot of irons in the fire,” Johnny acknowledged. “But at the end of the day, it’s about doing justice to each project and bringing our unique experience to more people.”

The success of Justin Lane’s Brisbane venue is a testament to the brand’s ability to evolve while staying true to its roots. As Johnny succinctly put it, “It’s all about offering good quality food, good quality drinks, and making people comfortable. That’s what Justin Lane is all about.”
