SACHI Dig Into '90s Garage Nostalgia On New Single 'Jungle'

Kiwi electronic duo SACHI are back with a new single, and this time they're looking backwards to move forwards.

For anyone new to them: SACHI is Auckland pair Nick Chrisp and Will Thomas, whose friendship goes back to primary school, where they were already jamming together in rock bands years before either of them touched a laptop full of samples. The duo's breakout moment has become the stuff of local music folklore — after spotting Diplo outside a Grey Lynn restaurant, the pair waited it out, then threw a USB stick loaded with their music through the window of his departing car. Half a year on, the track was getting airtime on his BBC Radio 1 slot. Their debut EP, Lunch With Bianca, followed in 2016, with lead track "South Central" (featuring LA rapper Duckwrth) premiering on Zane Lowe's Beats 1.

'Jungle', out now, trades in the organ-heavy basslines and looping vocal hooks of '90s UK garage — but filtered through a distinctly modern lens of layered synths and club-ready production. It's the latest release from an act who've quietly built one of New Zealand's biggest electronic exports, racking up more than 105 million streams along the way.

The track opens stripped back before building into something bigger, with driving rhythms and expansive synth leads gradually taking over as it unfolds.

"At the time I was making 'Jungle', I was listening to a lot of old UK garage from the '90s, and they all had these big organ basses with simple repetitive vocals," says SACHI's Will. "I wanted to make something that felt like that but with a fresh spin on it. I had this vision for the song to have a more stripped-back start that evolved during the duration, bringing in big synths and leads that fill the space."

That gradual build is the track's defining move — nostalgic at its core, but built for a modern dance floor.

"Very happy with how it all turned out," Will adds. "It combines a lot of different influences into a very unique track ready for the dance floor."

'Jungle' follows SACHI's earlier 2026 release 'On Your Mind', and lands as the duo push further into a club-focused sound while staying tethered to the dance music that shaped them in the first place.
