Pet Shop Boys Announce New Album A Man from the Future

Pet Shop Boys have announced their new album, A Man from the Future, out 9 October on Parlophone Records — an eight-track record written as a tribute to Alan Turing, the mathematician and codebreaker whose work helped win the Second World War.

Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe wrote the music and lyrics, with spoken-word passages narrated by Juliet Stevenson and drawn from Andrew Hodges' acclaimed Turing biography — Hodges himself collaborated directly on the project. Sven Helbig composed the orchestrations, performed by the Manchester Camerata Octet.

"Our motive in creating this work was to make a musical memorial to Alan Turing," the duo said, "who gave so much to his country and the world and was rewarded for it by being prosecuted for his sexuality."

BBC Radio 6 Music will premiere the album on 4 October, ahead of a listening event on 8 October at the Imperial War Museum North in Manchester. A Man from the Future is available to pre-order now, with the full album landing 9 October.
