The 16-Year-Old Whose Doorbell-Camera Video Went Viral Is Playing The Tivoli

Maple's Pet Dinosaur made her first music video on a doorbell camera.

The clip, for her debut single 'Lego', cost nothing to make. Warner Music Australia says no Australian-born artist has had a more-watched music reel on Instagram, with more than 60 million views.

Offers followed, including flights to the United States for talk shows. She says the video was only ever meant to be a gateway to gigs. "I'm not trying to be a celebrity or influencer. I want to be a rock singer, and the best way to do that is by playing shows."

Now the 16-year-old from Newcastle has a record to play. Her debut EP, Child's Play, came out on Friday 30 October through Warner Music Australia and In Bloom. It has five songs: 'Child's Play', 'Big Mouth', 'Chorus', 'Lego' and 'Ice Cream Truck'.

The sound is heavy '90s alt-metal with big vocals and a warped VHS-horror look. "Child's Play is a playful rewind to the past but with a blood-soaked machete pointing to the future," she says.

The closer, 'Ice Cream Truck', is built around a pointed line: "I'll never chase a boy like an ice cream truck." Maple says the team built a working ice cream truck for the world around the song.

Her live career has moved just as fast. She has since played SXSW Sydney, only her third show, and Good Things, where Warner says she is the festival's youngest-ever act. Tool and Weezer were on the same bill. She has also played the main stage at Groovin the Moo.

Brisbane gets its turn on Sunday 21 February 2027. Maple's Pet Dinosaur supports Waterparks, with girli, at The Tivoli in Fortitude Valley. The tour listing marks the show 18+.

Before that, she plays Petersham Town Hall in Sydney on 16 January, an all-ages show, and the Hellbound 2 metal cruise on Carnival Splendour from 17 to 21 January.
