K2 Brisbane's New Three-Storey Mural Brings Native Wildlife to Spring Hill

Spend enough time stuck in traffic on Boundary Street, Spring Hill, and you'll eventually notice it: a full three-storey building has quietly become one of the more striking pieces of public art in the inner city. K2 Brisbane, the Spring Hill accommodation property managed by Kurt Braune's KBC Group, has unveiled a large-scale native wildlife mural across its façade — a collaboration between Braune and Brisbane mural artist Edwin Paulin.

The mural showcases a run of iconic Australian wildlife — a koala, a kookaburra caught mid-flight, a superb fairy-wren and a rainbow lorikeet — set against a sunset-toned backdrop of native flora and Aboriginal-inspired dot and circle motifs. Paulin, known locally for his vibrant, semi-realistic style, worked across the building's full corner frontage at Gregory Terrace.

"This prime corner location offered the perfect canvas for a mural on this scale," Braune says. "It's designed to give commuters and pedestrians something beautiful to look at and lift their mood while passing by or stuck in traffic, but also to showcase local art and artists in a highly visible public setting."

For Paulin, the appeal was reach as much as scale. "Painting native animals on this scale, right on a busy corner like Gregory Terrace, means thousands of people get to enjoy it every day, not just gallery-goers," he says. "It's exactly the kind of project I love being part of."

The timing isn't incidental — Braune points to the project as part of Brisbane's broader build-up to the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, as the city continues to invest in public art and streetscape improvements ahead of the event.

K2 Brisbane offers private rooms, studio suites and self-contained premium suites in Spring Hill, close to Roma Street Parkland, Suncorp Stadium and Caxton Street. The mural is now fully visible with scaffolding removed, on the corner of Boundary Street and Gregory Terrace.
