Four performances only. A cast of Brisbane's best. And a Count who's about to make himself very much at home.
Ghostlight Theatre Co. has never done anything by halves — the Brisbane independent company has built its name on horror, immersive staging and effects that don't stay politely on the stage. This October, they're going bigger again: a blood-soaked take on Dracula, adapted by William McNulty from Bram Stoker's original, running for four performances only at Crete St Theatre in Beenleigh.
It's being billed as Ghostlight's biggest production to date, led by multi-award-winning actor Reagan Warner in the title role, directed by Yasmin Elahi — the mind behind Evil Dead: The Musical, The Exorcist and Night of the Living Dead! The Musical! — with Tommy Burnett assistant directing.
"I have always wanted to bring the iconic horror villain Dracula to the stage," Elahi says. "Audiences can expect a graphic, bloody and visually striking production, delivered to the highest standard. It's a show not to be missed."
Expect the full Ghostlight treatment: practical horror effects, physical theatre, and the kind of staging built to make an audience feel like they've stepped into the story rather than watched it from a safe distance. "It is our mission to utilise local talent and produce high-quality theatrical productions that stay with audiences long after they leave," says Tommy Burnett. "With Dracula we have certainly achieved that."
The production leans on Brisbane's own theatre community throughout, with venue support from Beenleigh Theatre Group and rehearsal space from Brisbane Dance Theatre — a genuinely local production, cast and crew.
The details
Ghostlight's seasons have a habit of selling out, and with only four shows on the books this time, this isn't one to sit on. Book early — the Count won't be waiting around.
