Brisbane's fine-dining scene has quietly stopped apologising for itself. The city that used to send you to Sydney or Melbourne for a genuinely special occasion now has its own answers — riverfront rooms, serious chef pedigree, and menus built for a night you actually plan around, not just book. We picked three that currently do "posh" better than anyone else in the city. This isn't a formal ranking with a scoring sheet — it's three restaurants worth knowing about before your next big night out.
1. The Fifty Six
Perched on the top level of the heritage-listed Naldham House in the CBD, The Fifty Six is Brisbane's most striking take on contemporary Cantonese dining. Executive Chef Gerald Ong brings Singaporean influences to a menu built around hand-made dim sum — curated by Dim Sum Master Ka Wai Kwok — alongside elegant seafood and roast dishes like Hong Kong steamed murray cod and a signature half-side roast duck. It's served in a room built to be looked at as much as eaten in: olive green leather booths, plush velveteen banquettes, arched windows framing the tree-lined street below.
Budget $60-80 a head for dim sum starters, a main and shared sides, based on the restaurant's own published menu — before wine.
